Snowball and Trotsky
Snowball from the Animal Farm is connected to Leon Trotsky, a figure from the Russian Revolution, because they both wanted to make life better for their people, but in the end they were exiled by their fellow Snowball by Napolean and Trotsky by Stalin which they had more control. Snowball and Trotsky they both wanted to make life better for all in their time. In the novel Animal Farm Snowball represents Leon Trotsky, a figure from the Russian Revolution because he wanted to make life better for everybody. Snowball is a pig who is involved in the rebellion, which takes place on Manor Farm. Snowball, along with another character named Napolean, become the leaders of the rebellion. Snowball does a lot of good things for the farm. He and the other leader (Napolean) both run for leader of the farm, until Snowball introduces the idea of the windmill. The windmill is one of his good ideas, because it would do their work for them and make time for them to read and get an education. “Snowball conjured up picture of fantastic machine which would do their work for them while they grazed at their ease in the fields or improved their minds with reading and conversation” (Orwell 34). Snowball comes up with the windmill idea to lessen their work and allow their minds to be educated, by reading and studying. Snowball this, because he wants the animals to be able to write and read. Snowball wants the animals to be educated so that they can have better lives and keep the humans away from the farm, or getting back their control. Snowball and Trotsky both wanted to make life better for all. Trotsky’s first role in Russia’s new government in 1917 was as the People’s Commissar for Affairs. This made Trotsky responsible for making peace that would end Russia’s participation in World War I. However this would make the government better and stronger for Trotsky and his people. “Trotsky became responsible for creating a peace treaty that would end Russia’s participation in World War I.”(By Jennifer Rosenberg from About.com). Both Snowball and Trotsky wanted to make life better for the animals Animal Farm and the people of Russia. They both had ideas to educate the masses and create efficiency, so that people would have more control over their lives, meaning more choices and more free time. However, they both were assassinated by their fellow leaders, who had more control.

Snowball and Trotsky both were exiled leaders who had more control than them. The character Snowball is introduced in the novel Animal Farm as one of the pigs on the farm. He is a smarter than the other leader on the farm named (Napolean).However, Napolean wants to kick Snowball out off the farm and steal all of his ideas. Snowball introduces many ideas to make Animal Farm a better place for the animals. He has an especially interesting idea about the windmill, which will make the lives of the animals easier and more productive. Napolean wants to eliminate him from the farm to get control of the farm, and take credit for Snowball’s ideas. Napolean sends his dogs after Snowball, and they chase him off the farm. “Discipline, comrades iron discipline, that is the watch word for today. One false step and our enemies would be upon us. Surely comrades you don’t want Jones back “(Orwell 39). The quote is saying that Snowball is a little looser with the rules and that he is not as disciplined as Napolean. Napolean wants to say that about Snowball, because Snowball better than his, and he wants to do that to get himself in better looking. Similarly, Leon Trotsky, a key figure in the Russian Revolution, was also exiled by his fellow revolutionary, Joseph Stalin, because if Trotsky stay in control so that Stalin couldn’t get in control . In January, 1928, Trotsky was assassinated because he was writing “prolifically” during the time he was a way from the Soviet Union. After that, he went to Turkey and France. When Stalin was in power, he named Trotsky “a major conspirator”. Eventually Stalin sent 16 of his people to assassinate Trotsky in Mexico. “All 16 Stalin then sent out henchmen to assassinate Trotsky”(By Jennifer Rosenberg from About.com).As a result of the assassination, Stalin now had total and absolute power over the Soviet Union. Stalin used his power to brutally obtain loyalty, obedience, and control just like Napolean does in the Animal Farm.
